Groundwater Interference Assessment work plan by PM- EBA
We have learned that Alberta Environment (AENV) does not require
any ground water testing for this size of gravel pit. They say
that any interference to residential wells is the responsibility
of the gravel pit company and that they assume the gravel company
would provide any and all remedies.
We have learned that the water report provided by Yellowhead
Aggregates for Pit31/Turnbull was full of critical errors and
omissions, and was fundamentally flawed. No ground water testing
was done. They were attempting to appease us with an unprofessional
report based on 10 year old drill hole data.
We hired EBA- Engineering Consultants Ltd to provide us with
the scope of work that must be done to determine, in advance,
if this gravel extraction would affect residential wells and
the nearby Sturgeon River. Your generous contributions paid for
this report. This has been presented to our County as the minimum
level of ground water assessment we expect will be done for gravel
pit applications.
Paul Morton and EBA are pleased to support us in this initiative
and welcome us to circulate it as we require. This work plan
can be adapted to gravel pit applications in all locations. Please
review the report and feel free to circulate it appropriately.
This report has been presented to the Sturgeon River Watershed
Initiative (SRWI), and to Onoway River Valley Conservation Association
(ORVCA). Thank you again for your support! Together we "raise
the bar" for aggregate development in our County.
